Tasting Notes: Dark Chocolate - Velvety Vanilla - Toasted Oak

We knew the second we tasted this batch of Humongous Chungus out of the barrels we had something special. Then we were honored to be awarded a BRONZE MEDAL at the 2023 Great American Beer Festival. Wow.

Deep notes of layered chocolate cake abound through this as it balances with other notes of espresso, vanilla and roasted malts. We let this round age for 2 years in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels which additionally help round out all of the abounding complex flavors. In the brewery we all instantly agreed to take a different approach and forgo coconut this round. We instead added Madagascar vanilla and doubled down on cacao nibs from Ghana and Ecuador which we carefully hand roasted before adding to the beer – Thus Count Humongous Chungus was born!
